About the role

Joon Yi Barrister is seeking a passionate and driven Junior Criminal Barrister to join our team in the heart of Auckland's CBD. As a Junior Criminal Barrister, you will play a vital role in representing clients in a wide range of criminal proceedings, from initial investigations through to trials and appeals. This is a full-time position, offering the opportunity to develop your skills in a supportive and collaborative environment.

What you'll be doing

• Provide legal advice and representation to clients facing criminal charges
• Prepare and present cases in court, including drafting legal documents and conducting research
• Engage with prosecutors, judges and other legal professionals to advocate for your clients' best interests
• Stay up-to-date with changes in criminal law and regulations to ensure effective legal strategies
• Collaborate with senior barristers to develop your skills and expertise
• Manage a varied caseload while maintaining a high standard of client service

What we're looking for

• A law degree and admission to the bar as a barrister and solicitor
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think strategically
• Excellent communication and advocacy skills, both written and verbal
• A keen interest in criminal law and a commitment to obtaining justice for clients
• The ability to work effectively under pressure and to tight deadlines
• A collaborative and team-oriented approach, with a willingness to learn and develop
• Experience of Aunoa platform
• Knowledge in the Legal Aid system with ATG experience
