Jonel Hydraulics is a leading provider of hydraulic equipment manufacturing, repair, and servicing across New Zealand and the Pacific Islands. With fully equipped workshops in Auckland and Christchurch, we are trusted by some of New Zealand’s largest industrial operators. As an Authorised Enerpac Service Centre, our work spans hydraulic cylinder manufacturing, RAM repairs, precision machining, and custom hydraulic solutions.

 

We are currently expanding our team and seeking 2–3 experienced Fitter Machinist to join our Auckland operations.

About the Role:

As a Fitter Machinist, you will be responsible for precision machining and fitting work on hydraulic components and custom equipment. This role involves working from technical drawings to perform shaping, cutting, fitting, and assembly of metal parts to exact tolerances, contributing to the production and repair of hydraulic systems and machinery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Study engineering drawings and specifications to determine machining and assembly processes

  • Set up and operate manual lathes, milling machines, grinders, and other metalworking machinery

  • Fabricate and assemble metal parts and subassemblies into hydraulic machines and equipment

  • Conduct precision measurements using instruments such as micrometers and dial gauges to verify tolerances and fits

  • Cut, thread, bend, and install hydraulic, metal parts and pneumatic pipes and lines

  • Perform minor fault diagnosis, maintenance, and mechanical repairs on machines and fluid power systems

  • Ensure work meets quality and safety standards

  • Collaborate with the design and service team on custom jobs and refurbishment projects

Key Employment Terms:

  • Wage Range: $32.00 to $45.00 per hour (gross), depending on experience and skills

  • Minimum Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours per week

  • Location: Auckland (onsite workshop with occasional offsite installation work)

  • Employment Type: Full-time, permanent

  • Additional Benefits: Statutory leave entitlements, PPE provided, and training opportunities for upskilling in hydraulic systems

Minimum Requirements:

  • At least 2 to 3 years of experience in a similar role

  • Proven ability to operate manual lathes, grinders, and related machine tools

  • Competency in reading and interpreting mechanical/technical drawings

  • Basic understanding of hydraulic systems is preferred

  • Experience with fitting, tolerance checks, and quality control

  • Physically fit, safety-conscious, and able to work with precision under minimal supervision

  • A relevant trade qualification is preferred but not essential

  • A current and valid driver’s licence is advantageous

Desirable Experience (Not Mandatory):

  • Hydraulic fitting or cylinder repair experience

  • Familiarity with Enerpac or similar hydraulic tools

  • CNC experience (manual skillset is primary requirement)
