Leppard Orchard Limited is a Bay of Plenty based Kiwifruit orchard company. We have seen the growth of the capacity in providing labor and quality orchard service throughout the year.

With the demand in management and coordinating side of work, we are now looking for an Orchard Assistant Manager to join our dedicated Hoticulture team! 

Work location and Vacancy details:

Permanent position, full-time (guaranteed 30 - 60 hours/week, rotating roster from Monday to Sunday. Weekend job may involve depending on workload and weather.)

We offer a competitive wage, between 29.66 NZD/hour to 40NZD/hour, depending on your skills.

Daily tasks for the candidate would be:

1.    Orchard Operations: Assist the Orchard Manager in overseeing daily operations in planning, organizing, promoting and executing all activities related to kiwifruit cultivation, including planting, pruning, fertilization, pest and disease control, irrigation and marketing.

2.    Team Leadership: Supervise and coordinate the work of orchard workers, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure that tasks are completed efficiently and effectively.

3.    Plant Propagation: Curate and plant seeds, seedlings, and bulbs based on soil health and climate suitability. 

4.    Quality Control: Monitor fruit quality by regulating fertilization, pest/weed management, and irrigation, ensure that the fruit meet the required standards for size, shape, color, and taste. Implement quality control measures and corrective actions as necessary.

5.    Harvest Management: Help oversee the kiwifruit harvesting process, including Machinery operations, fruit picking, grading and post-harvest handling to minimize fruit damage and maximize yield.

6.    Inventory Management: Maintain accurate records of inventory, including equipment, and supplies. Assist in ordering necessary materials and equipment.

7.    Safety and Compliance: Ensure that all safety protocols and compliance regulations are followed by yourself and the orchard team. Promote a culture of safety on the orchard.

8.    Orchard Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance and repairs on orchard and equipment, or coordinate with maintenance personnel as needed.

9.    Data Collection: Record and maintain data related to orchard activities, including crop yields, pest control measures, and labour hours. Use this data to make informed decisions and improve orchard performance.

10.Communication: Maintain open and effective communication with the Orchard Manager, orchard workers, and other relevant stakeholders. Report any issues or concerns promptly.

11.Staffing: May be responsible for hiring orchard workers and contractors.

The candidates are required to:

  • -       Have minimum 6-month work experience in kiwifruit orchard OR
  • -       Have a relevant level 4 qualification
  • -       Have supervision experiencing of leading a team of 10+ people
  • -       Have no criminal convictions
  • -       Have excellent communication skills
  • -       Have team leader capability and be a good team player
  • -       Attention to details
  • -       Hard working
