We're now looking for a Building Technician (Materials Focus) to join our project delivery team based in Auckland. This is a technical role ideal for someone with hands-on experience in construction materials, product evaluation, and on-site coordination.

Note: This position is open to New Zealand citizens and holders of New Zealand Resident Class Visas only.

Location: Auckland, New Zealand

Employment Type: Full-time Positions (Minimum 30 hours per week)

Pay Rate: $30.00 – $35.00 per hour (based on experience)

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Evaluate and advise on the use of building materials in accordance with project specifications and relevant New Zealand standards.

  • Calculate material quantities based on design drawings and construction schedules to support accurate procurement and cost control.

  • Monitor on-site material usage and report on variances against project budgets.

  • Assist with supplier pricing comparisons and recommend cost-effective material alternatives.

  • Maintain clear records of material deliveries, usage rates, and wastage to improve site efficiency.

  • Conduct regular inspections to ensure materials comply with durability, environmental, and regulatory standards.

  • Coordinate materials planning with project managers, site supervisors, and quantity surveyors.

  • Assist in preparing documentation for building consent applications and council inspections, particularly relating to material performance and durability.



Requirements

  • Level 6 Diploma or higher in Materials Engineering, Construction Management.
    (Having at least 2 years work experience in a construction or materials control role may be accepted in place of a formal qualification).

  • Strong communication and documentation skills.

  • Punctuality, reliability, and a positive can-do attitude.

  • Must pass pre-employment medical and drug tests.

  • No prior convictions.
