Pay range: $28.00 – $33.00 per hour (depending on skills and experience)

We are seeking a dedicated Aquaculture Technician to join a busy oyster farming operation based in Mahurangi, Auckland Region. This hands-on role supports the spat and nursery team by ensuring optimal stock development and contributing to sustainable farming operations through technical monitoring and continuous improvement activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor spat development through regular growth tracking, size grading, and checking environmental conditions (e.g. temperature, salinity, water flow)

  • Maintain and calibrate equipment such as the FLUPSY system and other hatchery monitoring tools

  • Record stock data, support inventory tracking, and assist with monthly technical reporting

  • Assist with spat catching, transfers, and early-stage care of oyster spat

  • Participate in internal trials aimed at productivity and sustainability improvements

  • Carry out repairs and maintenance of farming gear and infrastructure

  • Follow health and safety procedures at all times, and report hazards or incidents as required

Minimum Skills, Experience and Qualifications:

To be considered for this role, applicants must meet one of the following:

  • Hold a relevant diploma qualification (such as in aquaculture, marine science, or a related field), or

  • Have at least 3 years of relevant work experience in an aquaculture technician role. 

In addition, the successful candidate should:

  • Be physically fit and able to perform manual labour in outdoor and marine environments

  • Have the ability to monitor biological and environmental conditions and accurately record data

  • Show good problem-solving skills and attention to detail

  • Be able to work well in a team and adapt to changing seasonal or operational demands
