Job Summary

The Database Administrator (DBA) will be responsible for the management, performance, integrity, and security of South Pacific Energy’s database systems. The role also includes monitoring and analysing electricity usage patterns and market pricing, particularly during peak and off-peak periods, to support our commitment to cost-effective power delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, manage, and maintain the organisation’s database systems in line with business requirements.
  • Ensure database security, integrity, and backup/recovery protocols are maintained at all times.
  • Monitor and tune database performance to ensure system availability and
    responsiveness.
  • Troubleshoot database issues and provide technical support to internal users.
  • Conduct regular audits to identify potential improvements in system structure and data storage.
  • Develop scripts and procedures for automation, monitoring, and reporting.
  • Analyse electricity usage and pricing data to assist in optimising peak/off-peak supply
    strategies.
  • Work collaboratively with the data analytic and pricing teams to support strategic
    decision-making.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of database configuration, procedures, and access controls.

Job requirement: applicant must meet following requirement to apply for this job

  • Tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in database administration, preferably within a utility or
    energy sector.
  • Proficiency with database systems such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, MS SQL Server, or
    Oracle.
  • Experience with data analytic tools and querying languages (e.g., SQL, Python, R).
  • Knowledge of electricity market data, pricing mechanisms, or energy demand
    modeling is highly desirable.
  • Strong analytically and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
