​​Job Description

  • Operate industrial sewing machines to assemble and finish garments and soft furnishings, such as curtains.
  • Thread machines, insert bobbins, and correctly position materials to be sewn.
  • Control the start, stop, and speed of machines using pedals and knee levers, coordinating the functions of presser feet, fabric guides, blades, and attachments while guiding fabric under needles, following edges, seams, or markings.
  • Change needles and adjust, secure, or modify machine attachments as necessary.
  • Trim excess threads and materials and operate non-sewing machinery such as thread trimming devices.
  • Inspect completed stitching for any defects and report malfunctions to repair technicians.
  • Carry out routine maintenance on sewing machines, including lubrication.
  • May assist with laying up, bundling, ticketing, labeling, and other finishing tasks.
  • Perform any other reasonable duties as directed by the employer.

  • Job type: Full-time Permanent
  • Pay rate: $25-$40 New Zealand dollars per hour
  • Days required: Monday to Friday
  • Hours per week: At least 35

Job Requirement

  • Minimum 2 years of relevant working experience or a relevant NZ level 4 qualification or an equivalent overseas qualification is required.
