Treatment Plant Operator– Lab Technician (Wastewater)

The opportunity
We have a permanent full-time position for a Wastewater Operator – Lab Technician in our Wastewater Treatment Team based at Bell Island near Nelson in the Tasman Region.
We enjoy a close working partnership, within a collaborative contract structure with local councils. Within our dynamic team environment, the focus has shifted from completed conveyance works to continual site process improvements and optimisation.
You’ll work autonomously and as part of an experienced, collaborative team of wastewater operators, engineers, electricians, site SCADA Programmer and Project Manager. The role will involve the following key duties, but is not limited to these:
- Day-to-day operation of the on-site laboratory, collecting and analysing samples
- Arranging samples for analysis for routine and special sampling
- Calibrating and keeping accurate records
- Co-ordination of treatment plant sampling and monitoring programme
- Maintaining, repairing and cleaning plant and equipment
- Completing report and logs
- Analysis of treatment process data to make suggestions for process changes
- Carrying out equipment tests eg flow tests, electrical tests and air pressure tests

- Guaranteed 40 hour working week, Mondays – Fridays, (note we require you to be willing to participate in the after-hours duty roster, which may include working weekends and public holidays as required)
- Salary is $60,000 – $65,000 (depending on experience)
About you:
The successful applicant must have the following skills, and attributes:
- Minimum 2 years prior experience working in a wastewater laboratory and wastewater reatment plant
- Hold current and relevant qualifications relating to laboratory sampling of water/wastewater
- Trained in the use of microscope techniques to perform analysis of algae
- Hold a Level 6 Micro-credential in Calibration and Traceability
- Full NZ drivers license
- Excellent attention to detail and excellent organisation skills
- Strong commitment to customer service
- Strong communication skills both verbal and written
- Ability to work autonomously while also being a strong team player
- Out of the box thinking and a positive can-do approach to problem solving
- A willingness to engage, learn and be a part of the treatment team
