We are looking for an experienced Japanese Ramen Cook who can work on all aspects of food preparation, cooking, quality control, and professional kitchen duties within our small kitchen team.

Location: Auckland CBD. Full-time, Permanent role.  
Wage rate: $25 - $30 / hr, depending on experience and skills. 
Hours: Minimum 30 hours and maximum 40 hours a week.

We are looking for an experienced Japanese Ramen Cook who can work on all aspects of food preparation, cooking, quality control, and professional kitchen duties within our small kitchen team. You will help lead the team and needs to demonstrate strong cooking ability, understanding of health and safety and food hygiene requirements, and a great can-do attitude.

Key responsibilities:

  • Prepare ingredients, including broths, stocks and noodles, condiments and side dishes under the direction of chef
  • Cook food to set standards and maintain excellence in the dishes served
  • Portion food currently and check that the consistency is maintained
  • Meet and maintain hygiene regulations as per procedures
  • Receive and record deliveries of stock and other kitchen supplies as per procedures, including temperature records for meats, and record any issues and notify the chef if food deliveries do not meet the standards
  • Discuss food preparation issues with the chef and other staff members
  • Understand and follow Health and Safety policies at all times

Key tasks:

Tasks for this role may also include;

  • Stock quality and quantity control, inventory management and recording
  • Portioning food and controls
  • Enforce hygiene regulations for kitchen assistants and restaurant staff
  • May require keeping records on Food Control Plan
  • May require training other kitchen staff and supervise the activities of other kitchen staff
  • Making suggestions for a new menu
  • Substituting ingredients as necessary
  • May at times be required to opening and closing the kitchen, as required
  • May at times be required to demonstrate techniques to cooks and advise on cooking procedures

This is not an exhaustive list, and you may be expected to perform other related tasks requested by management and as necessitated by the development of this role and the development of the business.

Suitable candidates will:

  • Have at least 2 years of relevant work experience in total, AND
  • Have a minimum of 1 year of work experience in cooking Ramen

Ideal candidates will have the following:

  • A high level of personal cleanliness and a great understanding of food hygiene
  • Professional cookery qualifications are preferred, but not required. Suitable experience is essential.
  • Passionate about preparing and serving great Japanese food
  • Be positive, willing and adaptable and a contributing member of the kitchen team at all times
  • Able to organize efficient work schedules and work under pressure
  • Good communication skills to work within the team
  • Flexibility to perform shift work on a 7-day rotating roster as required
  • Able to stay calm in difficult situations
