Region Merchandise Planner

Join one of New Zealand’s leading suppliers of party accessories and costumes! Walond Ltd (TA Look Sharp) is seeking a driven and professional Merchandise Planner - South Island role based in Nelson who is eager to develop their career in the retail and party supplies industry.

Position Details:

  • Role Type: Full-time, permanent
  • Location of the job: Nelson (responsible for all South Island region stores)
  • The minimum guaranteed hours of work per week: 40 hours
  • The maximum hours of work per week: 50 hours
  • The minimum and maximum rate of pay or salary: $27-$30 per hour (depending on skills and experience)

Job Description:

  1. Merchandise Planning and Strategy
  • Develop and implement merchandising strategies that align with the company's sales objectives and customer expectations across six South Island stores.
  • Plan seasonal and long-term product ranges and stock levels based on store-specific needs.

     2. Product Sourcing and Coordination

  • Source and select products suitable for regional store demographics, working closely with suppliers, buyers, and head office teams.
  • Negotiate purchase terms including pricing, quantity, delivery schedules, and promotional agreements with vendors.

     3. Sales and Market Analysis

  • Analyse sales trends, customer behaviour, and market conditions to forecast product demand and plan future stock.
  • Use sales data and performance indicators to recommend promotional strategies and optimise profitability.

    4. Stock and Display Management

  • Ensure optimal stock levels and the timely replenishment of products across all South Island stores.
  • Oversee stores in South Island by coordinating product placement, pricing, signage, and promotional displays.
  • Monitor inventory movement and coordinate markdowns, clearances, and price adjustments as needed.

   5. Product Quality and Rotation

  • Conduct regular store visits to assess stock condition, remove expired or damaged goods, and ensure visual merchandising standards are upheld.
  • Collaborate with store managers to manage floor layouts and stock rotation schedules.

   6. Budgeting and Profit Forecasting

  • Assist in forecasting sales, setting budgets, and evaluating product performance against financial targets.
  • Identify high-margin product lines and suggest adjustments to maximise sales opportunities.

    7. Communication and Management

  • Maintain clear and regular communication with buyers, suppliers, logistics teams, and store managers to ensure smooth merchandise flow.
  • Provide store teams with updates on product arrivals, promotions, and display standards.

 Requirements:

  • Minimum of one year of relevant experience or a level 4 NZQF qualification in retail, sales or business
  • Strong interest or knowledge in the retail and party supplies industry
  • Hardworking, reliable, and punctual
  • Positive attitude with a strong sense of responsibility
  • Flexible availability, including weekends and holidays
  • No criminal record
