Key Responsibilities:

  • Orchard Equipment Maintenance: Conduct regular maintenance and repair of Kiwifruit orchard machinery, including tractors, harvesters, irrigation systems, and pruning equipment, ensuring efficient and safe operation at all times. 

  • Irrigation Systems Maintenance: Inspect, clean, and maintain the orchard’s irrigation systems, ensuring consistent water distribution to support optimal Kiwifruit growth. 

  • Infrastructure Repairs and Maintenance: Maintain and repair orchard infrastructure such as fencing, trellis systems, protective netting, and shelters to ensure a safe and secure environment for both workers and crops. 

  • Tool and Equipment Management: Perform routine checks, cleaning, and storage of tools and machinery used in orchard operations, including ensuring that safety standards are met. 

  • Health and Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety procedures and regulations during all maintenance activities, including proper use of PPE (personal protective equipment) and machinery handling, to ensure a safe working environment for all team members. 

  • Troubleshooting and Repairs: Diagnose faults and carry out repairs or replacement of broken machinery, electrical systems, or plumbing within the orchard, minimizing downtime and ensuring productivity. 

  • Collaboration with Team: Work alongside the orchard management and horticultural team to ensure smooth operations, including assisting with the setup and maintenance of plant growth systems. 

  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, machinery usage, and inspections as per company and regulatory requirements. 

  • Environmental Sustainability: Ensure that maintenance procedures and waste disposal methods follow environmental sustainability practices in line with company policies and New Zealand regulations. 

  • Emergency Response: Be on-call to respond to breakdowns and urgent maintenance issues promptly, ensuring minimal disruption to orchard operations.

You will also need

  • Good problem-solving skills and a positive attitude.

  • Excellent time management and organisational skills.

  • A good level of physical fitness and enjoy working outdoors.

  • Good initiative to work unsupervised at times.

  • The ability to work flexible and sometimes long hours including weekends.

  • The ability to adapt, be flexible and learn quickly

  • Enthusiastic about customer service excellence and the contribution you can make to the business

  • Knowledge and at least 6 months practical experience in maintenance related role and/Or relevant NZ Level 3 qualification.

  • Valid NZ drivers license or accepted international driver’s license.

 

We will provide at least 30 hours of work per week. The hourly rate offered for this Role is a minimum of $27 per hour, with ability to increase to $29 based on Knowledge/skills and experience. Hours of work are Monday - Saturday between the hours of 8:00am - 6:00pm.
